Beginner's Genealogy Workshop : Build Your Family Tree

Join us at Artspace for a dive into your personal history! We will be utilizing online resources to begin the journey of learning about your family's history & building your tree. This workshop is going to be value-packed, and designed to help you hit the ground running with your research, to help you build the momentum & excitement necessary to weave the big picture together. I strongly encourage you to have a laptop or tablet available, and recommend you sign up for an Ancestry.com account. Neither of these is vital, however! You can do a lot from your phone and with the free resources available online. We will be going over some of the best collections of data & the powerful tools you can utilize for online research and organization. During the class, we will begin building your tree and discuss common obstacles, solutions, and the standards that help you build a reliable & accurate record of your family history. We'll cover: Digital Tools & Resources Best Practices & Research Standards Organization Methods Understanding DNA Ethnicity & Using DNA in Research Etiquette & Tools for Navigating Skeletons, Myths, and Big Feelings

Getting Here

The Artspace Hastings location is at the east end of 2nd Street, in downtown Hastings. You will go north on Tyler street, towards the river. Just past the Artspace building, and turn right into the building parking lot. There is a sign that says no parking, you may dismiss this as you are guests. Head up the stairs next to the back lawn (adjacent to the parking lot), to the large, towards the large, overhead (garage) door – the door to the right is the gallery entrance.
